We’re getting the first glimpse of how virtual reality will change the way we look at the world.
The technology has been in development for a few years, and while it is still in its early days, there is an emerging market of virtual reality (VR) headsets that are being sold for as little as $US60.
Here are seven things to know about VR headsets and what to look out for.
1.
The price point.
The most popular VR headsets for consumers right now are the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, but there are also a range of headsets that offer a range from $50-$70.
For the average consumer, the cost is lower, but it is the price point that makes VR headsets more accessible.
For example, a Vive VR headset costs about $US150, while a Rift headset costs around $150.
2.
What do they do?
VR headsets can do things like provide 3D, positional tracking, and audio in real-time.
This means that the user can see the world around them in 3D and can interact with it. 3.
What does it look like?
The Oculus Rift, the latest generation of VR headsets, is a set-top box, or VR headset.
It has three sensors on the top of the head.
This allows for positional tracking and 3D tracking.
The headset also has microphones that record sound, which is then combined with the positional tracking to give users a virtual world.
For a headset like this, the tracking and audio can be quite high-end.
4.
Will I be able to use it for work?
Yes, the Oculus VR headset can be used for work, but not all VR experiences will work that well.
For instance, there are VR games like EVE: Valkyrie, which have a limited amount of space for your head.
VR headsets are not going to let you play the game in the same room as your friends.
5.
Can I play it with a headset?
VR games and other VR experiences can work without a headset.
The Oculus headset allows the headset to work with the Oculus Touch controllers.
For those with a compatible Oculus headset, you can play the Oculus games in VR. 6.
Will it be available in Australia?
Yes.
Oculus is currently launching in Australia, including the country’s capital Canberra, and Melbourne.
The VR headsets will be available on the Oculus store in Australia on September 1st.
7.
What is VR?
Virtual reality refers to the phenomenon where the user sees a virtual environment that is not reality.
A virtual environment is a world that is made up of three dimensions (3D) and which has a sense of depth and spatial relations, such as a building.
While 3D can be very useful for visualising and moving around objects, it is also important for the user to be able move in 3d space.
For many people, virtual reality means being able to see their own face in the virtual world, or to be surrounded by virtual worlds that are 3D.
VR is a relatively new technology and has not yet reached mainstream consumer products.
A recent report by market research firm Gartner predicted that by 2020 VR headsets could become the dominant consumer product category.
8.
What kind of devices do I need to buy?
The best way to understand how VR headsets work is to use a smartphone to test the headsets and to use your phone as a VR camera.
VR cameras work by capturing light and then recording it in real time.
This creates a 3D model of the 3D space.
It is important to note that the camera can capture images of objects but not the 3-D space itself.
9.
How will I be paying for these headsets?
VR headset prices vary by headset, with a range offering from $US50 for the HTC Vive to $US600 for the Oculus.
For most consumers, these prices are much cheaper than the $US120 to $$130 price range of a typical consumer VR headset that costs more than $US1,000.
10.
What about the cost of games?
Many games will be playable on the Rift, including some AAA titles.
However, there will also be a range for titles that have not yet been developed and are still in the early stages of development.
VR games will also likely be cheaper than games that are developed in the next generation of consoles.
For games that have yet to be released, a range is also available, from $5 to $30 per month for Oculus Rift headsets, and $5 per month to $10 per month or more for the Vive headsets.
11.
Can you use it with headphones?
Yes you can.
You can plug a headset into your PC, or use headphones as a headset, and it will work with your PC. 12.
Can games work in VR?
No.
VR will only work with a game that can run on the current generation of gaming consoles.
While VR is technically possible, the current consoles do not support VR. 13. Is there a
